Always-On Story Editor

The story text editor is now always visible in preview — no more tapping to reveal it. When you've made changes that haven't been saved yet, a clear visual indicator lets you know edits are pending.

More Reliable Revisions & Regeneration

We fixed several issues that made revisions and audio regeneration feel janky. Everything should feel smoother now.

  • Story titles no longer flicker or reset to a placeholder while a revision or audio regeneration is in progress
  • Story content (text, characters, settings) is preserved the moment you kick off a regeneration — no more blank-state flash
  • Polling stays active when you navigate into Story Detail, and the store syncs immediately on any direct fetch — no more stale data after returning to a story
  • The "Updating your story…" banner now correctly appears during long operations, so you always know something is happening

Clearer Approval Flow

We rewrote the approval flow to be clearer and more predictable.

  • Button labels and status messages in story preview and approval screens have been rewritten for clarity — especially the "approve with edits" action
  • Edits made before approving a story now save correctly via the standard edit endpoint, so your manual changes are saved as-is instead of triggering an unintended AI revision

Polish & Reliability

A batch of smaller fixes across the app.

  • Character names now correctly resolve and display in the Details tab (they were previously showing raw placeholder values)
  • All in-progress operation messages (generating, revising, regenerating audio) now come from a single source of truth for consistent wording
  • Audio regeneration confirmation now uses a native dialog instead of an alert, matching iOS conventions

A New Voice Picker

We rebuilt the voice picker from the ground up. There are now 30 voices (18 of them new), each with a regenerated audio preview.

  • The picker recommends voices based on your story's mood, so you're not guessing
  • Browse by category (Calm, Fun, Dramatic, and others) or search by name and style
  • Compare two or three voices side by side, then pick the one you like

One-Tap Retry When Something Goes Wrong

If story creation fails, just tap Try Again. Your character, theme, length, and voice choices are all saved.

  • Error messages explain what went wrong and what to do next
  • Different retry options depending on which step failed (text, audio, image, or Yoto upload)
  • Progress banners track the retry as it happens

Yoto Upload Progress

Uploading to your Yoto Player now shows live progress instead of a spinner.

  • Polling adjusts how often it checks based on attempt count
  • Re-uploading the same story works without stale state issues

Polish & Reliability

A batch of smaller fixes across the app.

  • Audio playback errors show a retry button right in the player
  • Loading spinner on the play button so it's clear when playback is starting
  • Empty states in voice search and library filters
  • Account deletion has a timeout so the UI can't get permanently stuck
  • Expired deep links show a toast instead of failing silently
  • Voice picker remembers your current selection when you open it

Smoother Story Creation

We streamlined how stories move from idea to finished audiobook, so everything feels more predictable.

  • A new placeholder card appears in your library the moment you start a story, so you always know it's in progress
  • Story titles and status update in real time. No more refreshing or guessing where things stand
  • Smoother transitions with no more flicker when opening a story that's still generating

Review and Approve Story Revisions

When you ask the AI to revise a story, you now get to review the changes before the final audio is generated.

  • A clear progress card replaces the original story while a revision is in progress, so you never see stale content
  • Once the AI finishes its edits, an approval sheet pops up for you to review and accept before narration begins
  • Direct text edits and AI-suggested changes are now handled separately, so there's no confusion about what changed

Faster, More Reliable Performance

We rewrote how the app tracks story progress. Things should feel faster and more stable.

  • Consolidated story status tracking means fewer redundant checks and a single source of truth for updates
  • Fixed race conditions that could cause glitches when story status changed quickly

Pricing Adjustments

Updated pricing for story packs.

A Calmer Story Creation Flow

We rebuilt the "your story is being created" experience so it stays out of your way.

  • Creation now drops you back to your Story library with a friendly toast, instead of holding you on a full-screen progress view
  • An inline progress banner appears on the story itself. You can browse, start another story, or close the app while it finishes
  • Audio narration progress is now shown right inside the story detail view
  • Smoother transitions with no more flicker when opening a story that's still generating
  • Estimated durations are now prefixed with a tilde (~) so you know they'll settle once the audio is ready

More Reliable on Spotty Networks

Stories and account actions used to occasionally get stuck when your connection hiccuped. Not anymore.

  • Automatic retry for transient network failures when talking to our servers
  • Background polling now retries with backoff when requests drop
  • Fewer unexpected sign-outs when the app refreshes your session in the background
  • Network errors now show readable messages instead of error codes

iPad Support

StoriesForMe now runs natively on iPad. This is our first release built for the larger screen.

  • New split-view layout: browse your story library on the left, read the full story on the right
  • Selecting a different story in the split view properly refreshes the detail pane
  • Story creation and revision flows work correctly in both portrait and landscape
  • Larger text, more breathing room, and tap targets sized for the bigger display
  • Keyboard support for iPad with Smart Keyboard or Magic Keyboard

Yoto Integration Polish

  • Home screen now reflects your true Yoto connection state in real time
  • Connection checks retry automatically if your network blips mid-request
  • Clearer warning when revising a story you've already uploaded to a Yoto card

Account & Privacy

  • Deleting your account now fully revokes your Sign in with Apple token (per Apple's account-deletion requirements)
  • Cleaner sign-in and profile flows with fewer redundant loading states

Performance & Battery

  • Resolved an energy drain caused by audio sessions and background animations
  • Fixed several memory leaks. The app should feel faster and drain less battery over time
  • Story auto-save is now more efficient and plays nicely with iOS system scheduling
